Machupicchu: the Inca trail

Peru and Machupicchu were another highlight of my trip in South America. Machu was in my bucket list for so long and I am so glad I could finally visit and enjoy it.

Machupicchu

1st day of the Inca trail

Machupicchu is one of the 7 wonders of the world but I have to admit very touristic places sometimes lose their charme. Wait wait: I am not trying to say Machu was not good.

I did the famous Inca trail: 4 days of hike, 3 nights camping to arrive on the last day at Machu Picchu in the morning (6am).

Inca trail price And details:

If you want to do the official Inca trail you have to plan it in advance. There is no way. There 500 spots per day including porters (Peruvians who help you to carry your staff). Plus, Machu Picchu is close every February and the rainy season is not the best one to visit it. At the end, the best months to visit Machu are May, June, July and August. For that, you have to reserve Your spot 6 months to 12 months before. YES!!! I am not kidding.

Inca trail friends

Inca trail includes:

– Food and water for the 4 days

– Transportation from and to Cusco

– Camping material

– Machu Picchu ticket

– Guides

Price:

From 500€ to 700€

It depends when you book you trail. Book it in advance allows you find better deals.

Attention:

Not every agency is doing the Inca trail. There is a Peruvian website (www.incatrailperu.com) that has all the recognized agencies for the Inca trail. If you arrive in Cusco and someone tells you they can sell you the Inca trail: do not believe. The Inca trail has to be bookies in adavabce as I said before. However, agencies can offer you other trails to get to Machu Picchu (usually these options are much cheaper: around 100€ to 200€). You can also do a trekking to Machu Picchu for 4 days without any agency (Salkanty trek is supposed to be very very nice). Without any doubt this is the cheapest and sometimes the funniest way to get to such an amazing place like Machu Picchu.

Machupicchu

However, Machu Picchu rules changed and from July on you can only get in Machu with a guide; you have to chose if you want to visit Machu in the morning or in the afternoon;(more details in: www.theonlyperuguide.com).

If you have the chance, please visit Machu Picchu!

Hope you enjoyed this post and keep following my adventures in South America.
